| ... Have I been playing DoD since '06 thinking it was using both cores as a standard? | |

| From my understanding if you have a 64bit os it should automaticly be on. Mine is. Now for dual gpu mode you have to turn that on manually. I have heard complaints that core 1 is100% and core 2 has nothing going on. Mine has never done that it has always split the load on all 64bit software and compatible games. All 64 bit games I have played have auto detected the 64 bit os. A few 32 bit games do make core 1 go to 100%.
I suggest anyone with a 32 bit os that has a dual core poc or higher look into seeing if this helps and if it works on the 32 bit os systems.
Also if anyone expierences a 100% core 1 and a 0% core 2 check bios to make sure that your mother board is not set to single core only forced mode.
Other things that cuase 100% core 1 are old 32 bit programs and the few 16 bit programs that still work.

| mat_queue_mode [-1,0,1,2] - This setting determines the threading mode the material system uses. A value of -1 uses the default for your system, a value of 0 uses synchronous single thread, 1 uses queued single threaded mode, and value of 2 uses multi-threaded mode. Many users report performance increases on multi-core systems when setting this variable to a value of 2.
System defualt is -1 so if you have a 64 bit os it should already be using dual core mode. If set to 2 you are forcing it. So things that noormaly would defualt to 32 bit will be forced to 64 if possible causing performance increase.
To set sound 64 bit use: snd_mix_async "1" This will allow sounds to be ran in 64 bit mode for better sound respons.

i may be wrong, but if you force off a core in your bios, it doesnt even show up in windows, so you cant see a reading of 0. Since technically it doesnt exist and shouldnt even show up. on my system , win7 ultimate x64, when i play dod my core 0 shows at 99% to 100%. cores 1,2,3 show at between 25% and 80%, always moving up and down.

| That is true Klicker I have been on a 32 bit system in along time. Been 64bit since the first release.
Please see my new topic on full tweaking of system. I'm not dont playing with it but this may help all.

| Im running a quad core hyperthreaded and although it spreads the load across the quad core it doesnt seem to get the hyperthreaded part and only 4 of the available 8 show a decent load...

| Not bad emsy, not bad, your laptop I mean Well, if the game is running good, you don't have to do something. Only if something is wrong with the graphics or some like that. It's not that easy to change a laptops hardware, but yours is good already. The most time, if you have some problems in game, you have to change the game settings. Lower them, or whatever. When my comupter was bought new, there was a problem with the cores, just two worked. But things like that you have to change on windows. | |

| Emsy since you have an i7 you have a quad core. And I think this is a moot topic anyway since there is a setting for enabling multicore support in the options section. | |

| You all know that you can enable it under video options? Video - advanced - multicore rendering. I've confirmed that it uses my other cores, works just like the command |

| I don't understand any of what Col. Smooth typed or what to do with it and so my laptop is trash compared to Emsy's. I have a 2 year old HP with an AMD Turion X2 64 dual core with a crappy ATI 3200 HD graphics card, but it works. Is there any way to improve it's functionality for DOD? |

for a laptop there is not much you can do to optimize just make sure you windows installation is good and set all settings at low in DoD and you can try to optimize dod a little in console but that is basically all you can do. |

| So I suppose asking about functionality with my six-core AMD Phenom II would be moot as well... |
